We just brought home a new kitten over the weekend and we've noticed that her breath and feces have a rotten smell to them. I noticed today after she had a bowel movement that there was blood all over the outside of her anus. What is this from, and should I be alarmed that it might harm my other adult cat's health? I'm going to take her to the vet, I just want to know what to expect.

Sounds like the kitten had a severe case of worms, and yes, as another said can be fatal to a small kitten. When you take her to the vet ask if there is anything you can give to the adult to make sure she/he does not get them also. Some worms can be transmitted through feces,and from the cat stepping onto them, cleaning their paws, and wham, now you have multiple sick kitties. Would recommend isolating the kitten, bleaching out the litter box along with clean litter for your adult cat, and keep food water and litter boxes separate for each cat until the little buggers are all out of her system.
I'm not vet, but please take it to one, because she sounds like there's an infection. It sounds serious, but maybe it's dryness from lack of moisture in her anus?

I had this problem in a kitten once a few years ago, it turned out to be hook worms. The vet told me that one of the tell tale signs of worms is bad breath. Take her to the vet anyhow, if it's worms it's fairly inexpensive to treat. Good luck!
It sounds like your cats has a serious case of worms, get her to the vet immediately. Worms can cause a lot of damage to the insides of a baby cat.

I am not sure what it is, but it could be worms or it could be a disease. I know of a disease around my area that kills the kitties really fast.coccidia.and it gives them pale diareah along with those symptoms and you have to give it albon.but please just take it to the vet.whatever it is sounds serious.
You'd better be alarmed! Get this kitten to the vet immediately or she's going to die. Bleeding from the rectum for any reason is *very serious*!

Sounds like worms to me. Get to a vet right away. Worms can kill a kitten in a short amount of time.
