Litterbox help? Please advise.?

OK鈥鈥檝e got four cats, Rory, Emerald, Alice and Trixie. They each have their own litter box, as my vet advised in case of illnesses. My problem is that the cost of continuously throwing out the litterboxes when they are full is prohibitive. My girlfriend argued with me that most people simply clean out the boxes and refill them with litter. Is she right? I鈥檝e never heard of such nonsense. It makes me shiver in disgust to even think of putting my hands in the box to empty the poop and pee. The cost of buying new litter boxes every second or third day is expensive, to say the least. I have spent over $1,000 in the last four months. How can people stand running their hands through this disgusting stuff? Yuck!

Of course you throw out the litter box; you're girlfriend is just a freak. I find a great way around keeping up with new litterboxes for my two cats is by buying children's wading pools and placing them strategically around my home. THey last for months before needing emptied and cost about the same as a regular litter box. And when company comes over, they can double as little beach themes for parties. And the best part is that by the time they all need replacing, my lease is up, I move without notice and never have to even TOUCH them! It's a brilliant plan.
Your girlfriend is very much right. you don't actually take your hands and physically pick up the waste! You can either get clumping litter and a little scoop to just scoop out the mess (you don't touch it) or just get cheap litter and dump the contents of the box into a trash bag and the rinse it out in your sink or outside with a garden hose. If cleaning the litter box is such an issue than get the littermaid box - it does the cleaning for you!
I throw out the litter and replace it .you can buy liners for your cat pans or use plastic garbage sacks which makes cleaning up easier..or get a litter maid which then all the refuse is put in a bag for you and you just have to throw that away. There is no need to keep throwing away litter pans every few days
You sir, are a twit.
Stores sell scoops for this particular issue. And if cat poop is this repulsive to you---skip out on having kids. Replacing THEM every time they fill a diaper is cost prohibitive and time consuming.
First you use a pooper scooper and get good clumping litter. Like arm and hammer multiple cats. That's crazy buying litter boxes left and right. When you see a turd or clump of pee use the scoop put in a platic baggie and throw away. Adda little more fresh litter and you're good to go. I clean my cats box out everyday with scoop and put fresh litter in once a week. IT DOESN'T STINK and if you keep on it you shouldn't have a problem.GOOD LUCK!
Buy clumping pine cat litter. As for it at your local pet store. Also, buy a catlitter shovel, as for it at your local pet store.

Clean the boxes twice a day, in the morning and at night.

Wash your hands every time you handle cat litter or even your cats.

Its a responsibility and if your not up to the task, you have no right owning animals.
use litter box liners plastic baggies
change the cat litter and wash the box
buy a scooper
Use scoopable litter and a litter box scoop.

Wow! Your girlfriend must be with you for your money! Obviously she isn't with you for your intelligence! What a woman!
You throw out 4 litter boxes every few days?! Are you joking? All you need to do is clean them out. You don't use your hands, they have scoops with handles for that. Just scoop the poop every day, and then maybe every couple of weeks dump out the old litter, clean the boxes, and put new litter in them.
Love your kitties, love their poop.
Never heard anyone throwing out a litterbox. just pick it up and dump it into a garbage bag.
You don't use your hands, you use a litter scoop. You can get one in anywhere pet supplies are sold. If you get clumping cat litter, everything can be lifted neatly out. There are even some that are safe to flush down the toilet - although I would be wary about using them if you have a septic system.
gad zooks, how have you survived this long??

Okay, go to a pet store.look where the cat stuff is.get a litter scoop. The metal ones are better in my mind.it is a sifter-like utensil with a long handle. I use scoopable litter %26 paper lunch bags.
I scoop every day or so %26 put the scopped waste in a bag. I close the bag %26 put it in the *outside* trash.

Every six months or so, empty all the litter into the outside trash %26 rinse %26 clean the box out.use rubber gloves %26 soap %26 water..

You have wasted so much money because you don't pay attention! Why do you think they call it scoopable litter??
With the money you save maybe you can go to school %26 learn more..
what I used to do with my cat is line the litter box with a garbage bag and then put the litter in the box and when ever it got dirty we would just changed it. I also used gloves too that way I wouldn't contaminate my hand.
This has GOT to be a joke. No human being can be THIS stupid. Right?.Right?!
Wow that's really wasteful. It's called a pooper scooper so you don't have to touch the poop, duh! They make cat box liners too so even you don't want to scoop poop you could just throw away the liner when it gets full instead of the whole box! Suck it up, be a man and deal with it.
Your a guy right? Quit being a puss and empty the litter! You are seriously going to waste your money because you can't change your cat's *?!! Everyone i know changes their cat's litter. Not buys them a new litter box.
first off, you have got to be kidding us.
If your gf told you to clean the litter box, surely she told you of this ingenious device called a litter box scooper.
(look mom, no hands.)
also, if you really have never saved a litter box, or used cat sand, the scoop sand they have out now is excellent for the use in which it is intended .
They also have in pet shops, a self-cleaning cat box. If you have spent as much money as you say on this problem, then the cost of a self-cleaning litter box is a drop in the bucket, and will be a very satisfying addition to your pet care supplies.
get a plastic litter box and a litter scooper and scoop out the waste and add new litter when you need to and then maybe every week or everyother week or so do a full litter change.
Your girlfriend is smart. You clean it out instead of throwing it away. You don't stick your hand in it though. Your local pet store should have a litter scoop. Invest in that. It's about 5 bucks.
