Kitty keeps going potty next to litter box?

We always keep it clean. Even if there's nothing in it but litter, he goes next to it. I hate to sound graphic but it's never normal stool. It's almost diarreah. Any ideas?

The cat's probably trying to tell you that it's not feeling well. That's the only way they can communicate with you. My cat always used to pee in the sink or bath tub when she was sick. Maybe take him to the vet to see if anything is wrong - or change the food.. maybe it's not agreeing with him.
have 2 litter boxes one for pee and one for poo. or maybe change the type. my cat did the same thing.
diarrea isn't normal for a cat. I say take her to the vet. And maybe she got scared whil.e in her litter box that wold make her not want to go in it. That happened to my cat. She heard the toilet flushing and was scard and started using the other room for a toilet. In that case just try and teach here that her litter box is safe and don't do any sudden movements or sounds. Good luck
How big is the kitty, is it able to climb into the litter box? Maybe you should move the litterbox over to the spot that it goes. When I was training my kitty to use the litter box I was throwing her in it like every 30 min., you could do that to remind the kitty where to go.
What kind of food are you feeding him, you shoudlreally take him to the vet to get looked at, he might have toxitiosis
My cat used to do the same thing until I realized she was missing the box cuz she would hand her booty over the edge. got a larger box and then she realized she didn't need to cover it cuz when she would go one of us would immediately go in and flush it so the smell wouldn't waft out of the bathroom lol
If he consistently has diarrhea, he needs to be checked by the vet. He may need a different food, he may have Irritable Bowel Syndrome - there are a number of things that could be wrong. I would bet that once his stool is normal he starts to use the litter box regularly again.

If that doesn't help, try a different litter. If there is a hood on the box, remove it. If you use litter pan liners or add a deodorizer, stop. Provide a second litter box. There must be something about the box he doesn't like - experiment until you find the winning combination.
How big is your kitty? maybe he is too small to get into a litter box (legs too short) Also for the diareah problem you may want to try a different type of food, and if you are giving your cat milk stop. Some cats are lactose intolerant and become violently ill because of the milk in their diet. I used to have a diareah problem with my big cat and giving him a high protein low fibber food really helped.
I hope your kitty feels better real soon.
You could try and keep your kitty on dry food for a while, and as for the litter box situation, move your litter box over abit where you have found the feces on the floor. I heard that this will help your cat go to the litter box.
Check with the vet to be sure there isn't some underlying problem. You can try switching the litter to something called cat attract. It's more expensive than traditional litter but the texture and scent is supposed to attract your cat to the box. It worked for my cats. Oh and before I forget to mention it, you can't find it at just walmart, you have to find it at a pet store. Where I live the only place the carries it is pet supplies plus.
My cat (5 yrs old) was doing the same thing for about 2 weeks.
I didn't think to much of it other than she was just being stubborn,
because the box was always clean. She is going into surgery
today to have stones removed from her. The vet said that
the diarreah and going on the floor was her way of trying
to say she didn't feel good. Alot of the 'cheaper' cat foods
contain something that is reffered to as ASH. This causes
stones / crystals in the cats. Please, Please get your kitty
checked out ASAP. If the stones are small you can change
there diet and they have medice that will deteriate the stones.
I waited and today I am faced with coming up with $700 - 900
to pay for a surgery to remove a very large stone. Not to
mention the $400 spent on taking her to the emergency room
on a sunday, because of blood in her stool.
If the cat has loose stools, take it to the vet right away.
put the cat in the litter and move his paws in it as if he were covering up the poo. he may not be box trained. my cat wans't and thats what we had to do. he eventually picked it up and did it on his own. do it at least 3 or 4 times a day. it will work i promise
