Kitten steps in his own poop! Help!?

I have a kitten who is about 5 months old now and on occasion after doing his business he steps in his poop and then tracks all over the house (GROSS!!). Now he is usually a very clean kitten (no clumps in his fur near his behind, etc.) so I am surprised and shocked that he'd likely knowledgeably walk around with poop on his paws - is there a way to fix this? Is this a behavioral issue or something? I work during the day and am therefore not home as much as I wish I could be but when I get home I try to pay as much attention to him as possible. Thanks all for your advice!
Answers:
1. Get a larger cat litter box.
2. Clean cat litter at least twice a day.
3. Place a piece of carpet remant that is much larger than the litter box, underneath the box. Place another piece of carpet remant on the wall, near the box. The idea is to encourage your kitty to scratch in the vicinity of the box to prevent tracking.
4. Of course, if he's spreading poop all over the house on purpose to get your attention, the only cure is to give him more attention or to get another cat to keep him company(!).
let him lick it off
put flypaper in his kitty box, when he goes, woolah the paper keeps him there, i dont have the answer to how to remove flypaper though,oh well good luck
The litter box may be to small,,, Also is your cat covering his litter? If his Mom never taught him it maybe very hard to stop him. My cat was doing this, but the box was to small
my cat did the same thing for the longest time! we had to give him bathes 3-4 times a week! he eventually grew out of it but try getting a bigger box and making sure its clean and empty
good luck, kittens are worth it
Separation anxiety - mixed with a little retaliation.
uh jub jub, no.

aslan, my balinese (a real fuzzy kitten) has it happen some times. i noticed that he learned to clean it himself once he had to start having foot baths in the sink.

sometimes, * happens IT IS NOT anything wrong with the cat. dont worry
