Liter box training my kittens?

Hello everyone and thank you for all of your responses in advance,
I have 5 week old kittens. Lately I've been going into basement (there room) and I've been finding the cat's are having accidents. I've filled a shoe box lid with liter and put it in the spot where the first accident was but they are still having occasional accidents. What can I do to help?
Answers:
Cats are really good at learning things, when i train my kittens, if there is an accident i show them (without rubbing their nose in-it) tell them NO or bad and place them in the box(try not to get impatient with the kittens you don't want to make them afraid of you), some times you have to repeat this little process for a day or so, but if they cannot help it, you may be feeding them the wrong food, allot of people don't know that cat food with seafood in it can make the cats have diarrhea, and/or gas, it doesn't matter if its hard or soft foods.
tapping the kittens nose when it does something wrong helps at times too, they don't like that much!
First off you need to make sure they can get into the box. Maybe make a little ramp for them. I would also put a piece or to of their poop in the box, then put them in the box. Maybe they will see and smell it and get the idea. But after you do that I would clean up (very well) where they have already messed in the floor. Hope this helps!
Just Leave Your Cats To Work It Out Bye Them Selfs.
Begin by confining then to a smaller area then you have them in now. Put several different litter boxes down for them to use in that smaller space. Make sure that after you Feed them, pet them or handle them in any way you put them down in a litter box. As they begin to use the litter box's you can increase their space and see if they are still having accidents. They will get it.You just have to be consistent and patient.

Good Luck
I have raised over 40 cats in my life. Here's what I do: watch the kitten when it's ready to poop. As it starts to go, gently pick it up BY THE SCRUFF OF THE NECK like it's mother does, and place it in the box while telling it what a good kitty it is. Make encouraging sounds so it doesn't think it's being punished. If you catch it in time, it'll continue pooping in the box. The reason for picking up by the scruff is to simulate it's mother's handling. If you reach under it's belly, this can cause the bowels to compress, causeing a messy accident. Cats are very instinctive, and usually require no box training; they usually just know what it's for, and use it.
Good luck!
Cats like to 'relive' themselves in soft thick dirt because they like to cover it up for many reasons. The best thing to do is make sure that they have at least an inch and a half of the kitty litter and make sure you keep it clean. They will usually train them selves, but this doesn't mean that they won't have other accidents. There kittens, there not going to get it right every time! Have TONS of fun with your new kitties!! The best of luck! (o:
Your litter shoe box is too small. Use a larger box. I go to Home
Depot and buy a cement mixing pan they are cheap only about
4.95 to $5.00. Change the brand of litter you are using and
change often.
take each kitten to the litter box, calmly put them in it and move their front paws back and forth a couple times, they will get the message that this is where they go to the bathroom.. i do not know how many kittens you have but 2 kittens per box is standard. and clean daily.. have fun with your babies..
