kitten with uri?

my kitten has had a cold since i got him 3 weeks ago. he was sneezing %26 had discharge from his eyes. the vet gave a 10 day round of antibiotics. the sneezing stopped but once i stopped the antibiotics, it started again. i gave him a 2nd round of antibiotics %26 he was still sneezing so now i have a new type of antibiotic for the 3rd round.
the vet never gave anything for the eye discharge at first but just provided me with an ointment. when i applied the ointment to the inside corner of the eye (followed directions) the eye appears swollen now that i have the ointment in it? is this normal?
Answers:
I have some questions about any vet that wouldn't tell you this, but after any animal takes that many uninterrupted rounds of antibiotics, yeast becomes a serious issue. You should definitely offer the cat a probiotic treatment, like a yogurt pet-treat or probiotic vitamin supplement in his water. Antibiotics kill the positive bacteria that suppresses the yeast that's naturally in everyone, and it causes lots of pain. The treatment won't hurt at all if he doesn't mean it, so you may want to administer it.

Enter the name of the ointment into your browser bar and click on the most legitimate official site that appears. There are many reasons an eye may appear swollen, and you'll know whether irritation is common as soon as you read the FAQ or side effects. I would think some redness would be visible, but nothing that looks more aggravated than it did.
