kitten help?

I had a question up here about my kitten's dry heaving. I took her to the vet and it turns out she's allergic to her food. I switched her from iams kitten to science diet yesterday. How long will it take for the effects of the old food to wear off and for her coughing to stop? (she's coughing less now)
Answers:
It will take a bit of time. Make sure you keep an eye on her. It may be an ingredient that is in the food that she is allergic to.

It will be okay just to start her on the new food. You do NOT want to mix the food. This will just make her have another allergic reaction.
get rid of her get a dog
You would think that it would have stopped right away.

It could be somthing that is in the food that she is allergic to, and not the actual food its self. Ask the vet to sugest somthing to you.

Do not feed your cats or any animal IAMS. They chemically test on innocent pets, like yours, with the money you are giving them though there product.
could it be hairballs? My cats always cough when they have hairballs. I give them a little vaseline.
remember you cant just stop the old food too quick or else it will upset her stomach even more. just add like 50/50 with the new and old food for a day then make is 75/25 then 100% new food. and i think it will take about 24 hours for the old food to get out of her system, maybe 36 hours
Science Diet sucks just as bad as Iams. It's full of meat by-products, corn, and the questionable preservatives BHA, BHT, and ethoxyquin, all of which have been linked to certain cancers and organ failures in cats.

What exactly is your cat allergic to?

I have my cat on two meals of high-quality soft food a day. He's lost weight, his coat is shofter and shinier, he's more hydrated, etc. High-quality foods are those that use REAL meat, more nutritional fillers like peas, and more natural preservatives. Wellness, Natural Balance, Nature's Variety, Solid Gold, and Wysong's are all good brands. The Nutro Max Cat sold at PetSmart isn't TOO bad. Not as good as the others, but better than Science Diet.

If you don't have a SPECIFIC allergy explanation, I'd get a second opinion. If your vet simply stated that she's allergic to Iams and then suggested Science Diet..well, that doesn't make much sense because their ingredients lists are pretty similar. Many vets push Science Diet because Hill's PAYS them to.
a day or two for it all to run through her system and your nuisance will be better, i hope she feels well.
