My 10 year old female cat is ill?

My cat has since June been unwell 1st she had the runs then was being sick she was put on fish and chicken then she stopped eating and would only drink water i was told she has irratable bowel syndrome and to feed her the pescription food this she had once and was sick, since then she has not eaten at all this has been since last saturday she is drinking but was bringing up her water the weekend and done nothing but sleep. I have been taking her to the PDSA every day and she has another appointment today. I did inform them that she is clearing her nose the last few days and a discharge has been coming from her nose. NEEDED any help at all in trying to find out what is wrong with this very much loved part of my family.

Our hearts go out to you both. Could you try mashing the the prescription food and spoon or syringe feed her several small doses?

Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a psychosomatic disease. This means that it is the activity of the mind that causes the symptoms. Most people do not have difficulty imagining having so much anxiety that diarrhea results. Chronic anxiety can similarly result in chronic diarrhea. This is basically what irritable bowel syndrome is all about. Intestinal biopsies are normal because there is nothing directly wrong with the large intestine.

Here is an informative website regarding the feline connection between the IBS %26 IBD - very similar diseases with similar approaches to treatment.

If you are taking her to the PDSA PetAid hospital daily, what are they suggesting that you do? I would suggest that if you are not getting the care there that you feel you need there, perhaps, there may be another resource in the UK that can help.

yes i had a cat black and white he is deceased now,he had flu,i loved my cat and also now i still love my cat which is no longer in this world, dont take ur cat to doctors they only do experiments, let him rest and feed him milk,a bit milk and as a medicine u use disprin take half of it if he has flu and mix in the milk dont disturb him and dont feed him heavy food like meal fish its too heavy.because u r indirectly killing ur cat.soft food and milk i think only milk is better not water.
This sounds like what my cat might have - the symptoms are identical, although my cat has only displayed this since Thursday. I took her to the vet on Friday and the vet was unsure what was wrong but said the most common problem is a bug so have given me tablets. He told me NOT to feed the cat milk or any other drugs not prescribed by the vet as there are a lot of harmful drugs to cats out there. DO keep taking her to the vets as they don't just do random tests they are trying to do there best to help you cat, they are the only people who know what they are talking about. My cat is 10 as well and I'm following the vets advise but also giving her loads of extra attention and cuddles to make her feel loved, thats all you can do to help her right now.
If she has a runny nose, and is sneezing a lot sounds like she has cat flu. It is highly contagious so hopefully you dont have any other cats.
The vet should give her anti-biotics for it. These you can try and hide in her food, if you dont like the idea of sticking it down her throat. Feed her fish, this has a stronger smell so she can smell it.
Make sure she has water to drink.
If she is snuffly, you can try and put a humidifier on. Also if she has a mucky nose, put some vicks on her chin. She cant lick it off there, but the fumes will help her breathe
Keep her warm
Do not give her milk, cats are lactose intolerant so will make her sicker.
Do not give her any other medicines that the vets dont prescribe, they can cause untold damage.
Hi I hope you find the right treatment for your cat. I am under the impression that there can be a lot of different causes for irritable bowel syndrome. Prescription foods can help but depending on what the underline problem is, there could be more that needs to be done.

There is a product from Purina that is called FortiFlora that can help with turning the diarrhea back into solid stool. Steroids could help immensely to get her appetite back. If your cat has problems with pills ask the vet to turn it into a liquid. They have some great tuna flavoring now that makes medicine taking a breeze. It's important to get your kitty to eat soon because organs start to fail fast. Please let me know how your little girl is doing.
