I am moving two cats to a new home. The male has been my pet for years and goes in and out of the house. The female is his mate and is ferral( outside only).How do I do this?I have heard people say to put butter on their feet. Kinda impossible for the Ferral cat.Help!

The only way she is going to stay in a new home is you have to make her a house cat. Or put her in the garage. As soon as you let her out you most likely will not see her again.
What is butter suppose to do? They are pulling your leg.
I have heard the same, put butter on paws, as far as feral mate goes----maybe she will stay around because mate will stay?
Getting cats to settle into a new home will take a few weeks no matter what.
Having just gone through this very same ordeal here is what I did.
I brought all four cats into the house together to avoid territorial issues. The two ferral cats were given one room alone for a week or so, and the two (semi) tame cats were given a room together as well. (Can you ever really "tame" a cat, or is it more of you being thier life long servant?)
After that first few days all four were alowed to roam about the house and reaquaint themselves with each other again. All are doing very well together now. Food and water made for very good bribery to keep everyone inside.
I hope everyone is box trained.
By the way I think you are foolish to let your cats outside, there should be plenty of mischief for them inside. Not to mention that when inside you don't need to worry about them getting sick or killed.
It will be hard to catch the feral cat to move him won't it? You could get a safe trap from the Humane Shelter to try and trap the feral cat. If you do and are able to relocate the feral one you should feed it right away in your new location I have never known a feral cat that would turn down free eats. However after you move him or her they may return to their old stomping grounds as they would maybe feel more secure and already have safe hiding spots in the old neighborhood. Best of luck from one cat lover to another. All my feral cats end up as inside cats sleeping on my bed or my computer.
My ig has great ideas for you. It is important that the female be confined to the house for about a month if possible. She must establish it as her "home base" in this new territory.
Since she is used to her mate they can work on their adjustment to the new house together.
Remember you have a new "territory" too. However safe it may have been for the female to be outside in your old place you need time to find out potential wildlife predators in your new area, what kind of dogs are in the neighborhood, what kind of neighbors you are dealing with (some people HATE someone elses cat in their garden and some will take disastrous measures against your cat)what the traffic patterns are on your new street, etc.
