Looking for a method of keeping raccoons and possums away.?

I live in rural area, and when I am gone from home, raccoons have a field day eating all my outside cats food. I prefer not to kill them, and a live trap would not work as I am sometimes gone for several weeks at a time. Any suggestions. and thanks.

As long as you are leaving food out they will keep coming, you are offering them a free meal! Remove the food and you will remove your problem! You should not kill animals for eating food that you are offering to them!! You said you are gone several weeks at a time?? Well, who is caring for your cats, how are you leaving several weeks of food out for your cats? If you have someone coming to feed your cat, then have them feed the cat indoors. If you are leaving your cat alone for several weeks, then maybe you should reconsider being a cat owner if you have no time for your pet.
if you have to leave food outside there is nothing you can do. just leave extra food i guess.
We have racoons too in our neighborhood and that's exactly what my neighbor does.leave extra cat food for the 'coons. They don't eat the trash anymore!
KILL EM ALL AND LET GOD SORT THEM OUT.just kidding I have no clue because there ai'nt too many possums and racoons in Arizona but i agree with DIANEE might as well put out a buffet for them critters, then maybe all the small animal activity will attract a predator and nature will will solve your varmit problem.Good luck
Git yerseff a dawg. Git a big dawg. Get yerseff th' biggest, meanest, orneriest dawg ya kin git.
